Ornithophobia: The fear of birds.(I had to look that up.)
Riah has developed a little Ornithophobia. It should probably just be Peacockophobia, but that word does not exist, so we are just going with the other one for now.
Today we visited the Peterson Rock Garden between Bend and Sisters. They have lots of cool rock sculptures and stuff, but they also had a looooot of peacocks running around the property. Riah had thought they were pretty neat, looking at them from a distance. Then she ran up on the walkway on this rock display within a bout 2 feet of a peacock that was laying on it and she did not notice it. This next picture was taken a split second after she noticed the peacock about 4 feet in front of her. She was kind of shocked and surprised but thought it was neat.

That is until that peaceful nice looking resting peacock, opened its beak and let out a verrrrry loud squawk right in Riah's face. This next pic was just before it squawked.
Riah's reaction was the most hilarious thing Brooke and I have seen for quite some time! She screamed, (about twice as loud as the peacock) covered her ears with her hands, and ran faster than she has ever ran towards me, crying. I was not far enough away from the offending peacock, so she quickly ran from me to mommy, still screaming. Trouble was there was other peacocks all over, so she could not get away from them. It was hard for either of us to comfort her, because we were laughing so hard and trying to not to let her see us laughing. The incident made the $10.00 entry fee to the rock garden completely worthwhile! It took about 5 minutes to get her calmed down again and back to looking at the displays. She made sure to stay way far away from anymore peacocks the rest of the time there. We just wish we had gotten her reaction and facial expressions in a picture. But we will not forget them for a long time!
We will have to see if this fear turns into a full case of Ornithophobia, or if we need to coin the term Peacockophobia.

He failed to mention the second time she got scared along with Sarah when about 5 peacocks screamed at each other. They both screamed, cried and came running. The funniest thing we have seen in a LONG time.
